Three-axle truck freight
Heavier loads on long interprovincial routes
A solution shaped around your cargo
The three-axle truck (known in Iran as “joft”, a ten-wheeler) is the Mehr Tarabar choice for loads too heavy for a two-axle truck that still don’t need a semi-trailer. Its twin rear axles (a tandem axle) spread the weight over more tyres, so it carries heavier loads reliably on long interprovincial routes.
How much can a Mehr Tarabar three-axle truck carry?
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Approx. payload | About 12–15 t, depending on model and body type |
| Gross weight limit | Under Iran’s road freight regulations (Appendix 3 of the Traffic Regulations), a three-axle truck with its load may weigh at most 26 t, with up to 20 t on the rear tandem axle and 6 t on the front axle. |
| Maximum length | 12 m including the load; cargo may not overhang more than 50 cm at the front or 3 m at the rear. |
| Place in the fleet | Larger than a two-axle truck (about 8–10 t), smaller than a semi-trailer (about 22–25 t) |
Three-axle body types at Mehr Tarabar
- Box (covered): a closed body for factory goods, packaged food, appliances and any cargo that must stay safe from rain, dust and theft.
- Open deck: for steel, rebar, profiles, building materials and equipment loaded from the top and sides by crane or forklift.
- Tipper: for large volumes of gravel, sand, soil, stone and debris on construction and mining projects.
Who is the three-axle truck for?
- Factories and industry: shipping products and receiving raw materials in volume between provinces.
- Steel traders and contractors: rebar, short beams, profiles and heavy materials.
- Construction and mining projects: bulk materials by three-axle tipper.
- Distribution companies: moving goods between central warehouses in distant cities.
- Traders: moving cargo from customs and ports to the warehouse when the load is too small for a semi-trailer.
Why a Mehr Tarabar three-axle truck?
- More capacity than a two-axle: carries over one and a half times as much and costs less per tonne on long routes.
- Stability and safety: the rear tandem axle spreads the weight better, making it more dependable for heavy loads over long distances.
- More flexible than a semi-trailer: shorter, so it reaches many factories and in-city warehouses more easily.
- Range of bodies: box, open and tipper cover most heavy cargo.
When it isn’t the right fit
- Loads under about 10 t; a two-axle truck or Khavar costs less.
- Loads over about 15 t or very bulky full loads; a semi-trailer has the lowest cost per tonne.
- Items longer than a three-axle truck’s legal length, which need a flatbed semi-trailer.
Before you book
- Give the exact weight so Mehr Tarabar can confirm the load stays within the 26 t legal limit; overloading is both dangerous and fined.
- Stow the cargo so the weight is balanced across the axles and nothing shifts on the road.
- Check loading facilities at origin (forklift, crane or dock) and truck access in advance.
- Don’t forget cargo insurance and the waybill; the Mehr Tarabar team helps with both.
Capacities are approximate and depend on the model, body type and each truck’s registration card. Weight and length limits follow Appendix 3 of Iran’s Traffic Regulations (road freight rules). In the quote form, choose “Three-axle truck” as the fleet type and the right body, and the Mehr Tarabar team will suggest the best option.
